I did some thinking and found a few words that I don’t often use but this doesn’t mean I’d permanently ban them. I mean, all the books that I enjoyed would have words removed and that would totally change the meaning of the story. You could use a similar word, but it would never give the same meaning or intention (or effect?). Have you ever read a translated book? One in particular comes to mind: Saha by Cho Nam-Joo. It’s a Korean dystopian novel translated to English. It’s one of my favorite foreign book. It was well translated, but there were moments I felt certain situations could have been explained differently. The point is. Even in English, if certain words were eliminated, the rightful meaning or message would get lost.
So, I couldn’t do it. I love words.
I’m going to read that soon….
