This story is about a family trying to heal after one of their children dies. They move to a town where they learn a woman named Davina lives in the home they owned and want to sell. They take Davina to court to force her out of the house. They win and Davina has a nervous breakdown. The court puts her in jail because she refuses to leave the home. Shortly after, the family and Davina learn that someone has set the house on fire. The same person also set a trap where the family’s dog gets caught in. Davina helps save the dog, but in doing so, injures herself. Eventually, they catch the perpetrator. They also learn some secrets about Davina and were able to help her find her way to her happiness.
There was a lot happening in this story and a lot of it felt disjointed. There were multiple characters’ point-of-views which I felt was unnecessary. As you can see, my description of the story focused on Davina, but the story was actually about the family. It’s because that story stood out and made the most sense. The rest just felt like filler.
I enjoyed the book overall. I found the writing pleasant and calm. I wanted to know more about Davina’s life as well as the parents of the family.
Who should read this book: Anyone who enjoys women’s fiction with a little bit of suspense.
