Magnolia In Acrylic

I rarely paint in acrylic anymore (I mainly use acrylic for mixed media…like this) but decided to try my hands at it with this magnolia. After painting in gouache for some time now, I was surprised to find that acrylic felt like gouache. I thought gouache would feel more like watercolor, but I’m beginning to think it’s not so.

I learned that good quality acrylic matters, even for a hobbyist. The Dina Wakley acrylic medium were smooth and buttery and blended well. It made painting fun. The Artist’s Loft was difficult to work with. I was never picky about acrylic paints so I’m surprised.

Are you an exclusive paint-type painter or do you like to mix and match and try new paints?
