The second day of the new year, Husband, myself, and a friend went to see Gareth Emery at The Church Nightclub. I still can’t believe we saw THE Gareth Emery. It feels almost surreal. We were right up near his station.
He played a couple of familiar songs and ended the night with “Concrete Angel” feat. Christina Novelli. I was outside on the side deck (my feet were aching and I needed a place to sit) when this was going on, but the music was so loud I could hear it.
Here are a few of my favorites by Gareth Emery:
“1999” feat. Annabel
“Soldier” feat. Roxanne Emery
“Where Do We Go From Here” feat. Robert Neumark Jones.
A little history about The Church Nightclub from Google:
“The Church (Denver, Colorado): Opened as a nightclub on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1996. Formerly St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (built in 1889), the building was purchased in 1994 and renovated into a multi-room venue that today remains a major hub for electronic dance music (EDM).”
It’s been about thirty years since I stepped foot inside The Church. I was in my early 20’s at the time. It’s so much more different now that I’m so much older. The music was definitely too loud for my “old” ears, even with earplugs. Nevertheless, I had a fabulous time, especially because Gareth Emery was the DJ.
The show opened up with a couple of smaller DJs that I wasn’t familiar with. They each played an hour or so before Gareth got on. The show went pretty late and finished around 2:30am.
Here’s a couple of photos of the venue:
It was a great way to start the new year.
