This is the first book in the A Light in the House short story trilogy. The story opens with the main character, Joe, who marries a woman he’s deeply attracted to named Kate. They buy a house and begin moving in. During the process, Kate starts to see and hear unusual things and becomes convinced the house is haunted. Joe has a lot on his mind, mainly his struggle with sex addiction. He’s constantly thinking about sex, daydreaming about making love to his wife, dreaming about passionate lovemaking with her, and even entertaining thoughts of infidelity.
This book is interesting because it focuses so much more on the sexual aspect than the other two books. Joe lives inside his own head and often struggles to express what he wants from his wife. He can see that she’s in her own world, one that doesn’t really include him as an equal partner, but he can’t see that he too is in his own world and isn’t really communicating his needs. It’s as if he’s afraid of losing her, yet there is a scene where he wonders why she chose to marry him.
This was a fun read.
Who should read this book: If you are into erotica or just want a no-stress, short read, this one is excellent.
