The third book in the A Light in the House trilogy, Ghosts and Gods takes us deeper into Joe’s life. He continues to struggle in his relationship with his wife, Kate, and the bar he frequents continues to be his place of refuge where he would drink his life away. The enchantress continues to possess him with amazing love making. He can’t seem to let the enchantress go. It’s as though her magical powers has a way with keeping him sane. Yet, it all came tumbling down when signs pointed to the reality of what the enchantress really was and the pain from that was a turning point for Joe. There are moments when he daydreams about the good times between himself and Kate as though he yearns for what they had, knowing it could never be that way again.

I believe this is the final book in the trilogy. I have to admit, I really enjoyed this book. The main character grew on me. At first, I thought he was a jerk, but as the story moved along, I began to understand what he was dealing with. It seemed he thought he knew what he wanted in life only to learn that the choices he’d made were not exactly what he was hoping for. He wanted to move on from the wrong (and bad) choices he’d made but struggled with how to go about it. The mysterious ghost who haunted Joe and Kate’s home before they moved was finally revealed and I thought it was adorable. I wanted Joe to make the right decisions and to say the right things to Kate, but he didn’t, and that felt real. Sometimes, it’s just hard to express oneself and Joe’s character portrayed that perfectly.

Who should read this book: Anyone who enjoys a good and simple storyline about life decisions and frustrations.
