In this story, we follow the Lightbender as he spends time in a ghetto district in Dorsfield known as Crikwood. There, he heals a woman from an illness and spends time with the people. Later, he meets another woman, Liliya, whom he falls in love with. She was ill and near death and while he’s healing her, he learns of her past and the struggles she went through. They bonded over her stories and tragedies. When Liliya healed completely, the two of them worked together to find a friend whom Liliya had thought died but learned was still out somewhere out there.

This was a good read. I enjoyed the friendship between the Lightbender and Liliya and how devoted he was to healing her. He spent countless hours listening to her describe how she survived a devastating situation and used his powers to fully understand her mental state. This was a beautifully written story about Liliya and how she overcame being captured and tortured by the enemy. The Lightbringer in this story played the secondary character in which he stood back and allowed Liliya to tell her story.

Who should read this book: If you are into war stories with some romance and literary themes, this one is excellent.
