I didn’t know what to expect going into this story. I don’t know much about the Amish world so was hoping to learn more about them, but it’s basically a story about a couple of murders and the suspect being the husband. The investigation felt like it was going in circles. What’s constantly repeated is a fire that killed the pregnant mother, but we’re never told who set the house on fire, and I don’t think that was ever revealed. I could have missed it, but it would have been tucked in somewhere where it was easy to miss. A lot of the characters were thrown in without any depth. I also couldn’t really feel for the murdered people because there wasn’t much said about them.

What I did enjoy were the short clips into the Amish world. They were very few and far in between, but it’s what’s kept me reading.

Who should read this book: This is a murder mystery with a ton of investigation that leads to dead ends. Eventually, some things are revealed. If you like long stretched-out investigations, this might be for you.
