This story is about a man named James who isn’t getting along well with his wife. They are in the middle of a move and James decides to go to a bar with his friend, Anthony, for a drink. Not sure if he drank something that caused him to hallucinate, or if it was in fact a mysterious situation, but he ends meeting a very beautiful woman and sleeps with her. Not feeling guilty when he returns to his wife, Anthony reminds him of his infidelity.

This book was fast-paced and well written. James felt like a well-thought-out character. He was very shallow, only thinking about himself and what he wanted. He gave the impression that he’d rather not be with his wife. There was nothing in the story to make his wife dislikeable or annoying or anything, so, to me, the issue was James. I enjoyed the urgency and tension; however, the story doesn’t match the book blurb nor does the “book cover” match the story. I was expecting a scary or spooky Christmas story, but it was basically a story about a married man falling for a woman who was magical.

Who should read this book: If you enjoy stories about relationships and the struggle with finding meaning or purpose, this one is great. It’s not a horror, if that’s what you’re looking for.
