This story is about two up-and-coming detectives, Flinders Petrie and Thomas Pettigrew, who take on a case of locating Cleopatra’s tomb. They learn what they are capable of by involving themselves with people who are familiar with Cleopatra’s history and location. In the process, the two detectives learn that their job wasn’t all that simple. People died and lives were in danger, and that was just part of their job.
I thought this story was well told with the two detectives becoming familiar with detective work. They referenced Sherlock Holmes and John Watson often, using them as their go-to for guidance on their journey toward accomplishing their first job. The side characters were well thought-out and had depth to them. I found it informative how the author included the history behind Cleopatra’s life. I knew the story behind her before I read this book, so I was delighted that it was on-point, although with a twist. Overall, this was an enjoyable read. It had the right amount of intrigue, mystery, and action.
Who should read this book: If you’re into detective stories about traveling to ancient lands and having anything to do with historical events, this would be an excellent read.
