This story follows Quinn Quicksilver who is an orphan. As he grows up, he gets this feeling to go out into the desert and then to locate a woman who was also feeling the magnetism he was. They both learn that an enemy is after them and they have to keep running in order to keep the enemy from getting to them.

This story started out promising. I liked the first person pov from Quinn as he tells us how he grew up. Around eighteen years old, he felt this pull to drive out to the desert. Nothing much was happening in his life where he lived, and this pull was so strong that he had to go out there. After this part of the story, it became vague. There was no explanation as to what Quinn was after or what this pull was or who was doing the pulling. We don’t know much about his childhood except that he was an orphan, and he doesn’t know much about himself either. There’s no clue or anything to let us know the direction of the story. The relationship between Quinn and the woman wasn’t very strong. I thought maybe they were going to learn they were siblings or maybe they were going to become a couple, but I got none of that. I’m not even sure where the story was going. The enemy was so vague, I didn’t care for who or what it was. It also ended in a cliffhanger, but nothing exciting happened before the cliffhanger to make it intriguing.

This was my first Dean Koontz book. I know he’s a big named author, but I can’t imagine why.

Who should read this book: If you like adventure with a mysterious enemy you might like this.
