This story is about a man who needs his green card to stay in the U.S. He ends up in a bet where he pays $50K to one of his hockey team buddy’s sister to have her marry him for the green card. The marriage isn’t real, but the paperwork is. After a year he gets the green card but then they fall in love and decide to keep the marriage.
The premise was fun. However, it was executed poorly. The story was written in first person from both the woman’s pov and the man’s pov. From the woman’s pov, she tells us how she likes him, but her mind is also on other things. From the man’s pov, it gets a little weird. He was always thinking about how hot she looked and how much he wanted to sleep with her. He would always have hard-ons when he thought about her or saw her. I didn’t get the feeling that they liked each other romantically. The man got his wish to stay in the U.S., but I didn’t feel that he truly liked the woman for who she was. As for the woman, she liked the man, but it felt more like she liked him as a friend.
I wanted to like this short read, but it just felt gross.
Who should read this book: If you like smut with some rom-com, you might like this.
