This is a story about a man named Arsalan who is a wizard with magical abilities that gained him a position with a king. Arsalan had the ability to build amazing structures, and this was something the king looked to him for. One day, a structure created by Arsalan fell and injured people. He decided he’d leave because he felt terrible for not making sure the structure wouldn’t fall. His wife left him, and his children all went their own way. It took a while for Arsalan to have the courage to use his magic again. He moved from places to places, trying to find people who would accept him. He met old friends and made knew ones, but all the while, his family was most important to him. A war erupted where Arsalan helped in, and this brought respect to him again.

This was a wonderfully told story about family and friendships. It’s about courage, not giving up, and forgiving. I like how easy it was for Arsalan to get along with strangers and to reconnect with old friends. I felt like I could be his friend. This story could be enjoyed by the whole family. I think young children would love it and could probably learn some life lessons from it.

Who should read this book: If you enjoy stories about magic with a historical twist as well as some literary storytelling, this would be an excellent choice.
