A Quiet Evening at the Symphony

Friday night, husband and I went to the Colorado Symphony at Boettcher Concert Hall. The last time I was down here was maybe eight years ago, for both daughters’ dance competition at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.

We headed downtown early to make sure we’d get a parking spot, and on the way we ended up driving behind a Waymo out on a test run. A little sci-fi to start the night.

The Denver Performing Arts Complex was already dressed for Día de los Muertos when we got there, with painted art hanging from the balconies under the glass roof.

Before the show we had dinner at Olive & Finch, right outside the complex. We sat outside facing the Optiv building and shared an appetizer. It had been a while since we’d had artichoke this way, so husband had to Google how to eat it. For our main meal, I had French onion soup and husband had a hamburger with fries. I forgot to take a photo of his hamburger! It was pretty big and delicious too (I took a bite).

Then the Colorado Symphony at Boettcher Concert Hall, with Andrew Litton conducting. The program was Stravinsky’s Le baiser de la fée, then Bernstein’s Serenade, after Plato’s Symposium with Vadim Gluzman on violin. After intermission came Ravel’s Valses nobles et sentimentales and La Valse, played straight through without a pause.

It was a great evening.
