All for daughter because she is obsessed.
Even though she’s read the books on my Kindle, and has downloaded the first book on her tablet and has been rereading it, I figured she might want the actual books.
A Divergent makeup palette. She nearly screamed my ears off when she learned that Sephora was selling a limited edition Divergent makeup set. She of course also wanted the $60 makeup kit and the $23 nail polish set but this was what I could afford. It was still expensive at $32.
I went and got myself a new lip gloss. I wasn’t in need of one but I haven’t worn any in ages. I was never a big fan of glosses. They’re usually sticky, overly scented, overly flavored, and never last longer than a few minutes. I believe the last time I wore a good gloss was in the early 2000’s when I was hooked on a specific Shiseido gloss for its non-sticky, unscented, and gorgeous color. Years later I tried to find the same one I wore but they’ve been discontinued and nothing else ever lived up to it.
Then I came upon Hourglass, a pretty new makeup line. I sampled their Extreme Sheen glosses at Sephora and was hesitant at first but then bought one, a neutral color called, Truth. On me it’s pretty much invisible. It’s the exact color as my lips so all you see is the shine. What’s the point of a gloss that matches my lip color you ask? I ask myself that question too and I don’t have a really good answer except that it keeps my lips moist all day and I can see a subtle rose pink on my lips. I don’t have to reapply every other hour like I do with Chap Stick or lipstick. It stays on until I wipe it off and it’s non-sticky/gooey. It also reminds me of the Shiseido lip gloss I once loved. Um…I guess I do have some pretty good reasons for buying it but nothing in the area of need. It’s pricey at $28.00 a tube so I’ll be using this sparingly.
Lastly, a fun grungy retro just because…and yes, I am wearing Hourglass Extreme Sheen in Truth.
I’m not in any urgent need for more makeup but ended up buying more than I’ll ever wear anyway when I dropped by Ulta to only buy shampoo and conditioner. Makeup is my weakness. I should know better than to drop by Ulta with only my 5-year-old who actually helped me pick out the Glinda pallette by Urban Decay (+ I think Michelle Williams is so beautiful and talented). She said, “Here, get this one. You have to get it!” As her mom, I should be saying, “No.” but I easily, said, “Okay,” as if we were best friends shopping.
I haven’t used this palette yet. I carry the lipstick pencil in my purse for touch-ups. The NYX eyeshadow and lipstick palette (below) is very nice. I’ve used it and I think it’ll work great when the family goes on our cruise later this year. This is the palette I’ll be bringing along.
My Valentine’s Day gift from husband: Ivanka Trump Perfume. It arrived a few days later. Husband had to special order it because it wasn’t at Macy’s yet.
Originally, I didn’t want anything but became obsessive with this perfume when I first sniffed a sample in a beauty magazine. I should stay away from those magazines too. This perfume is floraly which I wasn’t expecting from Ivanka but I still love it.
Note: Just thought I’d add that in the magazine sample, it wasn’t as floral.
There will be a time when she won’t be able to do this. It’s too adorable to not capture. 🙂
It’s been a long time since I’ve bought any makeup from a department store. I mainly buy from Sephora.com these days. If you know me, you know that I have a thing for lipsticks. I prefer the matte long lasting ones and sheers over the pasty or glittery ones. If I could only take one thing with me to a secluded island it would probably be a lipstick. A girl needs to look pretty all the time, you know.
I shop at a nearby Super Target all the time and rarely do I ever check out their beauty stuff. Well, that’s because I always have my daughters with me and they love the pretty stuff just as much as I do. Of course, they can’t buy grown up beauty stuff, yet. And, I’ve got so much makeup (especially lipsticks) that they’ll ask me why I need to buy more.
But, yesterday, I went and got myself a Sonia Kashuk lipstick in Rosette. I’ve been wearing it since I bought it and love how buttery it glides on. There’s no staying power but the color is beautiful and works well with my skin tone.
Like all my other lipsticks, it too will go into the doomed lipstick box (Chanel, Shiseido, MAC, and Dior are already there along with CG, L’Oreal, and Maybelline) to be rummaged by my 10-year-old a few months later. For now though, I’m going to enjoy how pretty it makes me feel.
