Rainbow Colors

For the flowers, since I don’t have a variety of ephemera colors I decided to cut some digital flowers out with the Silhouette Portrait, then color them/color over them.  I also don’t have a lot of stencils since I’m new to stenciling I had the Silhouette also cut the words and the triangle shapes on regular paper to use at stencils.

The triangle shapes stencil by Wilna Furstenberg, flowers by Sweet Caroline Studio, Mommyish, and Sugarplum Paperie, die cut tree branch was cut out from a digital element by Sarahh Graphics, wood veneer by Heidi Swapp, paper by Amy Tangerine, and paint is Reeves.

Color Harmony and Acrylic on Canvas

Really enjoyed this lesson on color harmony and on canvas.  I had some canvas boards on hand.  Had them for maybe 2 or 3 years for a rainy day when my daughters might want to paint.  Took one apart to paint in smaller blocks (see previous post for example).  Ephemera by Pink Paislee.  Stencils by Tim Holtz and Momenta.  Acrylic paint by Reeves.

Tints and Shades

Sorry for the bad quality of photo.  There wasn’t enough light and I upped the ISO pretty high thus the graininess.

This assignment asked for stamped butterflies or similar but I don’t have a lot of stamps so I decided to create the butterflies in Photoshop and overlay with digital scrapbooking papers (which I have a ton of), then I sent it to the Silhouette to trace and cut.  I used 3-D foam squares to stick the butterflies onto the paper.  The project asked for Glazing Fluid Medium but I don’t have that so I used Clear Gesso which turned out very similar.  My Reeves Acrylic paints are on the darker side so I had to mix in white to create the pastels.  I had to let this paint dry for at least a full day before I could add the embellishments.

Die cuts from Wilna Furstenberg.  Cut them out with the Silhouette Portrait then stenciled them using gel matte medium with some white acrylic paint.  For the grayish colors behind the other cut outs, I used calligraphy ink by Parker, and added a little bit of water to lighten up the ink.  Patterned paper by Amy Tangerine patterned paper, ephemera by Pink Paislee, doily for date from a FB swap., and bade by Studio Calico.

Writing with paint was a challenge.  I used Wilna Furstenberg’s premade script and painted over it as she did but it’s not as easy as she made it seem.  I enjoyed it though and hope to continue working on my text painting.  Used Amy Tangerine patterned paper and ephemera pieces by Teresa Collins.  Love badge by Studio Calico.  Acrylic paint by Reeves.

Brushstrokes with Acrylic Paint

I’m enjoying the Color Theory class by Wilna Furstenberg.  I’m learning so much about painting and colors and how they work together.  I knew how to match up colors and such before but I didn’t know how to really work with the colors to achieve a certain look which I think I have a better understanding of now.

This layout called for warm colors and brush strokes.

I finally was able to put my Tim Holtz paper distresser to good use as you can see in the last photo where I took a close-up.  I also learned how to create a sticker look with the Silhouette Portrait using the Offset.  Wilna provides a very good tutorial in her class but she also has the tutorial on her blog.  It took a few tries and frustrations to finally get it to work correctly.  The whimsical leaves die cuts were from Wilna, the dots were from a FB swap, the acrylic paints are Reeves, and the paper with the white cameras and the paper I’ve distressed are by American Crafts.

Stamping with Acrylic Paint

I used a rolling pin and bubble wrap to create the stamps.  The acrylic paint brand I used is Reeves.  They were a little on the darker side so I mixed a little bit of white in.  The journaling flower is from an ephemera set from awhile ago so I don’t know the brand.  The die cuts are from Wilna Furstenberg, the wood veneers and fawn badge are from Studio Calico.

Impasto

I’m taking an online class at Studio Calico called Color Theory by Wilna Furstenberg. It’s a crafty paint type of class and it’s strictly fun but I’m learning a lot more than I had imagined. The first week covered impasto.

CTIMPASTO0042_800I didn’t have pink acrylic paint (is there such a thing as pink acrylic paint?) so I mixed white and red to get the pink.  Initially, the pink was lighter than the darker color you see in the photos so I just added a bit more red to the mix.  I used Regular Gel Matte by Golden Artist Colors as the thickener.  For the black ink splatters, I didn’t have black in the little bottle Wilna used so I mixed a little water with black acrylic paint and used a brush to fling the color where I wanted the splatters.  The paper with the stamp ink is by Bazzill called Avalanche.  They have little ridges instead of the canvas texture. The heart stickers  and white stars stickers were from a Facebook swap, the little beads with the hole in them came from a Hello Kitty Scrapbook Kit my daughter didn’t want, and the butterflies are from my Martha Stewart Butterfly puncher.  The intricate flower cutout and the words (live, laugh, love) are cut files created by Wilna Furstenberg.  I didn’t use a glue gun like Wilna does even though I do have one.  I may start using it but for now I use the matte medium, Mod Podge, and E6000 as my glues.

Paper Layout: New Beginnings

I created the above paper layout by following the steps from Wilna Furstenberg at Studiocalico.com.  She used gel paint in her tutorial but I don’t have gel paint so I used what was available to me, which was, gel matte medium, and acrylic paints.  The intricate die cut was created by Wilna as a freebie.  I used the Silhouette Portrait to cut it out and then gently removed it from the mat with an exacto knife and a plastic scraper.  It’s a little time consuming but it’s one gorgeous piece of die cut.

This layout was so much fun to make.  I’ve never used paint on a scrapbook page like this so it was a really great learning experience.

 

Digital Layout: Admire

Created this layout for my This Is Me binder.  This Is Me was a class I took a couple of years ago at Studio Calico.  Basically, the instructor provided prompts and scrapbooking ideas to get you inspired.  The title (This Is Me) is however you want to translate it but  the scrapping/documenting must have everything to do with you, not your family or friends .  For me, it was sort of a personal reflective kind of scrapbooking so I choose to focus on almost everything I did/was/believed before I became a mom (because we all know, motherhood leaves no time for us to be who we really are) and a few things here and there from the present.

I used the digital kit collab freebie by Just Jamie, Little Butterfly Wings, and Quirky Heart called, M3.  The photos were random Instagram screenshots and the fonts used were Sea Dreams and Hobo Std.
