Gifts On Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day was nice.  Being a mom is one of the most amazing thing in the universe.  You get to bring new life into existence.  Nothing can be more magical than that…except maybe finding a unicorn.

I love all the gifts I got even though it’s not really the gifts that matter but the meaning behind it.  My favorite gift was from my 8-year-old.  She made a card with her drawings and wrote some really sweet words:

Husband got me a perfume I’ve been eying for a year.  It’s called Si and it reminds me of a few perfumes I wore when I was younger that have been discontinued.

Sister got me (plus our mom and our sister-in-law) flowers.

…and mother nature gave snow.

Memory

The photo challenge for week 9 was “memory.”  I went with two that mean a lot to me: Dune by Christian Dior and the white orchid.  Dune was given to me by a co-worker when I was about 21 years old and worked at a bank.  She was a french lady with the cutest french accent.  I visited her once at her lovely home and she gave me an advice I try to keep up with: Always make your bed because you don’t want your man to see it messy (something like that).  She also gave me her Dune perfume.  I told her I loved the scent and she offered it to me.  The orchard was from my last job.  I still miss that place and the people I worked with.

Eyes, Lips, and Bright Crystal

Last week, I ordered a few items from Sephora because I wanted the mini Shiseido Lacquer Rouge that came free with the purchase.  Here’s a review of those items:

^ Sephora + Pantone Universe Eyeliner Set.  I currently have the Sephora + Pantone Universe eye shadow palette and really like the colors and staying power.  I was using the eye shadow palette daily for a few weeks but since I haven’t had much time to do my makeup daily, I’ve been returning to my neutral Urban Decay Naked2 Palette.  Back to the eyeliners, I must say, I love these!  They glide on easily and stay put all day.

^ These are the colors: black, orange (shimmer), and brown.  I first used the black, but it was a bit too dark for daily wear, then tried the brown and have stuck to it.  It’s not too dark but dark enough to bring out my eyes.  I haven’t tried the orange yet but I think it’d be fun to create a Halloween look with it in a couple of months.

^ I also purchased, Versace Bright Crystal roll-on perfume, and Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing lip gloss in Witty.  The Shisedo Lacquer Rouge and Givenchy Mascara were free samples.  Bright Crystal smells wonderful.  I’m wearing it every day and have gone through spurts of wanting to buy the full bottle or just keeping this roll-on.  I can’t decide yet.

^ Top color is Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing in Witty.  Bottom color is Shisiedo Lacquer Rouge in RD607.

Witty is a pretty color and I wear it when I’m not wearing too much eye makeup.  The free mini Shiseido lip glass is an amazing red.  I will have to go for the original size once I run out of the mini.

^ I was drawn to the uniqueness of this Givenchy mascara wand.  This is a really nice mascara that separates my lashes and lengthens.  It really doesn’t add much volume.  It reminded me of a mascara I purchased last year around this time called Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara (photo below).  What I liked about the Fairydrops mascara is that it had little fibers that clung to my lashes creating volume.  The black was also super duper black.

Sometimes my daughters are my helpers or guinea pigs, however you want to see it.  For this makeup review, my 5-year-old helped.  That’s her arm in the eyeliner color example.   She kept it on all day because she loved it so much and it stayed too until she took a bath later that evening.

Truth or Dare

Yes, I am one of those peeps who went out and bought Madonna’s Truth or Dare Eau de Parfum.  She is legendary in my eyes (if I can even use that word yet), and even though I’m not really a fan of her current music style, I still listen to everything else.

The scent of Truth or Dare was okay, not something I would go out of my way to purchase, but because it was by Madonna, it was worth it.  There was a time when I wondered if she would ever come out with a perfume, so imagine my enthusiasm when I first saw the less-than-30-seconds commercial.  Later, I did go on Youtube to see the full-length.

Originally, I wanted the 2.5 oz (which cost $13 more than the 1.7 oz) because I wanted the free Truth or Dare tote that came with it, but the sales rep was sweet and gave me the tote with the 1.7 oz, so I was happy!

I’m not sure  what to use this tote for yet.  I’m thinking of using it to carry notebooks and sketchbooks.

Spring Beauty Buys

[Clockwise from top: Betsy Johnson Too Too Eau de Parfum, Urban Decay Naked 2 w/mini Lip Junkie Lipgloss in Naked, Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick in Incognito, and Bare Escentuals bareMinerals READY Blush in The Secrets Out]

I rarely buy makeup the way I used to.  I have a blog on makeup (a collaboration with my sister) but life has been busy for both of us that we’ve put it on the back burner.  Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever have the time to review makeup again.  I’ve realized for myself that as I get older, I just want beauty products that my skin will benefit from.  I don’t want to subject it to tons of chemicals.  A little chemical is okay.

The first day of Spring is tomorrow and I received my Sephora order just in time for the season.  I think the Urban Decay Naked 2 eyeshadow palette will last me forever.

I love the scent of this Eau de Parfum from Betsy Johnson.  On me it’s like a subtle version of Christian Dior’s Midnight Poison (which I also have) with a touch of sweetness.
