A couple of exciting things I’ve been up to. I like my old watercolor sets but wanted to try something a little more pricey to compare. I bought this Kuretake watercolor set and I’m really excited to get started on it. I’ll share swatches once I find the courage to actually use it. It’s so pretty, I’m nervous.
While I’m trying to build up courage to use the watercolor I decided to learn how to knit. I’m taking the class through Skillshare but I also found some really awesome tutorials on Youtube. I find that sometimes I have to combine different platforms of learning to get to my goal. The resources I will use are: Youtube, online paid classes, books, and magazines.
These Shaman bells are used in Hmong spiritual rituals. I am not Shaman so I am not familiar with the rituals. I only know that they are used but I have no idea how and what for. Another term for the spirit calling is “jingle bells,” or in Hmong, Hu Plig (pronounced, who-plee).
I had wanted to paint Arno Dorian from Assassin’s Creed because I loved his outfit, so I gave it a go.
This is the last week of my watercolor class and this is what I painted:
This was a very short course but the knowledge I learned will help further with working with ink pens and watercolor.
The watercolor started a couple of weeks ago. This is a 4 weeks course so it’s almost over and I can’t believe it! I want more. More watercoloring tutorials, that is. Here’s what I’ve done so far.
Week 1 – supplies…mostly ink pen scribbles.
Week 2 – practice shading
Week 3 – draw with ink pens (no erasing!) and watercolor
Made a few Valentine cards to send to friends + other mailings, and a package for a swap. I’m really loving the Silhouette Portrait I received in a giveaway a year and a half ago. I’m surprised I’ve never really used it much for making cards. Actually, I haven’t used it as much as I’d like to. This year, I will tackle that goal. I’ve got a few ideas brewing. In the photo below, I added a little watercolor to the die cut envelope. Watercoloring is something I’ve tried my hands at here and there too with hopes to do more of it this year.
This was the most mail I’ve sent out in my life in one day. There were 8 items total! It feels great to give.
Where did September go? 4 days left. Or, as I said to my youngest, OMW. Oh My Wow.
This month’s random is minimal. How strange that since I’ve started using my iPhone to take most my photos, and with the recent new Project Life App to simply life documenting even more, I haven’t used my DSLR much. I think another part of it is that my youngest is not such a baby anymore and won’t stand still very long for photos. And, my eldest takes her own selfies now. Will I completely stop taking photos with the DSLR in a year or so? Scary thought…and I had been wanting to upgrade to a full frame.
Here’s this month’s random.
Teddy earlier in the snow.
Found a schedule book that started from July to June. It works perfect with my girls’ school and activities.
Finished that water color painting.
Have been waiting a long time for an Instax camera. This is really great fun to play with.
My youngest got glasses.
